Were We Ever Meant to Make It?
It’s something I wonder at least twice a day… when I watch tragic stories on the news..when something totally messed up happens to me or my family…or when I think back to all human kind has done…compared to all we haven’t.
Looking around us at any given time, we can see the evidence of how we seem to move two steps forward, and half a step back. Yes, we can build artificial intelligence, we can send people into space, we can find another human being anywhere on the planet by tracking their mobile phones… but for some reason… we still can’t feed our poor, we barely clothe our families, and in order to care for ourselves.. we’ve had to cut down on caring for others. And most disturbing of all… we seem to fight…over…everything.
Violence grows as those who need begin to steal from those who want, as hungry hearts harden into jealous monsters and attack those full and satisfied. And those well off take advantage of those struggling to survive, feeding and mutating the cycle of hatred.
Is this how we were meant to live? For some of us to have way more than enough, some to have more than enough, some to have just enough, and some to have nothing at all? Is this how we were meant to live? Or….the real 1 million dollar question: Were we meant to live at all?
Mother earth has proven all-powerful…proven that will all the natural disasters she has served up over the last few millineums, that she has the power to shake us all off at any time, and start again. That at any time we could all be wiped out and our remains found by some archaeologist millions of years from now…. so maybe, boys and girls.. maybe that’s what we should be working on… not whether we were meant to make it, but what do we want the world to see when we are long gone?
If we were to meet a meteor disaster, invoke a neuclear winter, or level our whole realm of existence due to earthquakes and volcanoes like the citizens of Pompeii, how will they find us? Will they dig up our bones to find little machines stuck in our ears and wonder why we worshiped them so? Will they dig up our remains and wonder why only two silicone implants remain of our females and wonder what the hell we were doing to our bodies and why? Or will they simply leave us be…under tons and tons of dirt, rock, and rubble with a little sign that reads:
“Here lies the past, thank nature it is gone.”
