Do you Dare?

It’s happened again.

There she goes…like a star, falling to earth.

From far away a trail of bright-colored dust follows closely behind.

Look closer.

Her eyes are closed, her long silvery hair flying around, caressing her beautifully, yet unsually pale face. It remains expressionless as she falls, as if she is completely unaffected as to what is happening to her.

Her body limp and lifeless, it picks up speed as she falls closer to the earth, her clothes flowing beautifully behind her, cuddling her perfect skin that seems to have lost it’s usual glow.

Her eyes are still closed. You begin to worry as you watch her fall, Will she wake up? Please wake up. Before it’s too late. Please.

Horror engulfs your body as you see her fall, her body slows mere feet before impact. Your nerves ease a bit as you realize she must be waking…but her wings, her wings are not moving….oh no.

Slowly her body falls lifellessly upon the ground, as if the very wind had stretched it’s arms and placed her there gently as a last act of respect for the loss of it’s friend.

Upon a patch of the softest grass she lands at rest. Her eyes still closed, her body no longer aglow with the life and magic it once was. The earth begins to cover her and engulf her, a secret of the world, a treasure among the many the earth keeps at it’s heart…and now here it is, bringing her back to it’s bosom..she is covered in earth and grass around her, not a shovel in sight, until she is completely gone…nothing remaining in the spot where she fell but a patch of the most beautiful flowers you have ever laid eyes upon in the shape of a fairy ring…ironic…..She is gone, truly gone, and you realize along with a sick feeling in your stomach that you are to blame.

This never would have happened if you hadn’t said it, Hadn’t had the pride, the audacity, the sheer selfish nerve to say it….

What were you thinking?

How could you?

You know very well every time someone says “I do not believe in faeries”, a fairy falls to earth dead.

And now, it has happened, yet again.

Do you know if she was the last? Will you ever know? Will any of us?

Have you the heart to find out?

Or are you heartless enough to say those cursed words again…

“I do not believe in faeries.”

Do you dare?
