Get ready for the Summer the Movie Gods Favor!

Ahh..it calls to me.

The smell of overpriced popcorn, the wailing of those far too young to appreciate what wonderful adventure waits for them at the front of the line. The miserable, envious expression of the poor ticket-ripper’s face as he wishes he could trade places with those on their way in for this two-hour vacation. (*side note: This ticket ripper’s face could vary from miserable to envious to smug depending on whether he or she has already BEEN on said vacation or not) The whirring, and dinging of the arcade games as you saunter past them, ripped ticket in one hand, drink in the other, walking in a weird-looking way in order to keep your pockets from shaking the snacks hidden within them.

Oh yeah, boys and girls, it’s movie time.

Time to zone out, pretend you’re a Terminator, A boy wizard…or an AutoBot. Time to let that 50-foot screen show you magical things that can’t be seen with your regular 27, 32, 41, or for us lucky ones, the almighty 50-inch. Nah, these are just training toys… preparing you for the real test to come…when those lights go out, and everyone shuts up…and you don’t even notice how sticky your seat is because somehow…you’re just not in your seat anymore. The adventure takes over, and you willingly surrender yourself to it.

No real dreamer can live without it. I know for me, if I never took another costly vacation for the rest of my life, it wouldn’t matter, as long as I can always take my weekly 5-dollar one…..let it begin.

And this weekend, it begins with Terminator: Salvation.
