This film had all my favorite stuff in it, Sci-fi action, dazzling special effects, and a great story eerily reminiscent of “Ferngully” and “Pocohontas”. But hey, inspiration has to come from somewhere, right?

You can’t blame James Cameron for having an inspired imagination. He did a great job on this colorful and imaginative story of a paraplegic marine who longs to get the use of his legs back, and seizes the opportunity in the form of an operation on a distant planet. His job, to use a special machine to control his Avatar, a genetically grown alien version of him, which will allow him to blend in with the natives and hopefully convince them to move out so the greedy government can mine the wealth of ore located underground beneath their homes. Jake the marine, of course, comes to love the people and the planet, and “goes native” so to speak and fights against the offensive attacks against the people to take over and kick the natives out.

A wonderful story, in my opinion, and is quickly becoming the highest-grossing movie ever. And totally worth the 12 bucks for the IMAX ticket.
