It’s Official…Finishing a Novel Smells Like Hot Wings

Well, I’ve done it, ladies and gentlemen! I have tackled the task of writing an entire novel!

I began writing this book 4 years ago, thinking it would be like writing a really really long short story…and anyone who knows me is aware it only takes me a few hours to pound out a great short story, so hey, easy enough, right?

Wrong.

This, next to parenting, and marriage was by far, the biggest challenge of my life…there were ups, downs, and weeks of staring at a blank screen. I erased, and re-wrote, and erased again. I laughed at my cleverness, cried at my drama, and had a full-on funeral to mourn the loss of so many brilliant ideas lost to time and my laziness of not writing them down.

Finally, in the wee hours of the morning, (what I like to refer to as “The Magic Hour”) I began to smell a faint smell…it was wonderful, delectable, and made my mouth water…and then it was gone. I thought nothing of it, until I realized with giddy wonder I was finally typing those awesome capital letters ‘THE END’. I couldn’t stop smiling for 3 days. Well, technically, today is the FOURTH day, and I STILL haven’t stopped smiling.

This has been an epic week for me, folks. The day I finished writing a novel will be the day I remember forever….the patience, the ups, the downs, and of course, that intoxicating smell of hot wings that came out of nowhere.

….Now….the real task begins….getting it published. Wish me luck!

  1. I wouldn’t say I completely agree on some thoughts, but you certainly have an interesting point of view. Anyway, I appreciate the quality you bring to the blogosphere and that this isn’t just another abandoned, made-for-adsense blog! Take care…

  2. Well, all it has to do with is my unique view on how it feels to finish a novel…perhaps you mean you disagree on what it smells like? What does finishing a novel smell like for you? This is a new interest for me, an I’m excited to know. :o )

  3. CONGRATULATIONS =) I ant wait to read the book.

  4. Thanks! I’m really excited about it…4 years in the making! Now it’s time to see if the rest of the world will love it as much as I do! ;o)
